I have written about poverty and economic mobility issues for the University of Michigan’s Poverty Solutions research initiative, State & Hill magazine, MLive, Kokomo Tribune, and Big Rapids Pioneer. I have helped develop and place op-eds on poverty issues in The Hill, Detroit News, and other publications.

Understanding Communities of Deep Disadvantage
Collaborated with Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to release the Index of Deep Disadvantage and “Stories from the Field” from University of Michigan and Princeton researchers.
Opportunity Index
Narrative to help users navigate the Opportunity Index data tool and interpret the data. I worked with county stakeholders to identify key storylines that emerged from the data and explained the intersections of opportunity, privilege, and equity.


Poverty in our Community
Series for the Kokomo Tribune on generational poverty, living conditions in a local public housing complex, and the efficacy of poverty alleviation strategies employed by public officials and nonprofits, co-reported with Martin Slagter. Won a first-place Hoosier State Press Association award for best community service.

Multimedia article summarizing the research process and key findings from a 110-page research report for the University of Michigan’s Poverty Solutions. Wrote press release and advised on release strategy to share the research on residents’ priorities for economic mobility in Detroit.
