In August 2022, I worked with my University of Michigan colleagues to facilitate a three-part series of writing and communications workshops for the teens and young adults in the Detroit Phoenix Center’s Summer Leadership Academy. I helped plan and facilitate the workshops, which covered: owning your narrative, defining your point of view and type of expertise, using data to support your point, and crafting strong advocacy statements. I also oversaw the production of videos featuring on-camera interviews with the young leaders as well as audio of them reading poems they wrote.
